What to expect
“‘People often come to therapy hoping that the therapist will provide them with the answer. The truth is, the answer is already within them”
Therapy is not about giving people advice or telling them what to do. It’s a process of helping people to explore themselves, their experiences and their relationships to help them to understand themselves better.
Therapy can sometimes be challenging. Reconnecting with feelings, experiences or memories we may have been avoiding or haven’t thought about for a while can often be difficult and upsetting. However, it can be a very rewarding and liberating experience. Therapy can help us:
Feel much more connected to ourselves and our feelings.
Understand ourselves and the way we behave better, including why we respond in certain ways to people and situations.
Use this understanding to cope better with situations and emotional demands.
Improve our relationships and interactions with others.
Feel more positive about ourselves and confident to make the changes we desire in our lives and to find ways to live richer, fuller lives.
